I was told by an expert in state constitutional ERAs that ERA could
have an impact over time in the courts. At the very least, it would
set a new precedent that discrimination based on . is
unconstitutional in the same way race is. The Hawaii case used the
argument that if a man can marry a woman legally then it is
discrimination based on . if a woman cannot marry a woman.

From a ... rights perspective, ERA should be a priority for the entire
movement's progress because right now a ...'s only guaranteed
protection is her right to vote under the US Constitution. Whereas her
... brother has many rights as a male under the Constitution. The ...
Marriage argument will be strengthened in courts when ... women
have equality under the law to push for this basic civil right.
