But without the "we need the South Africans in case of a war against the
Soviets" argument, South Africa would quickly be facing severe NATO
(Euro-American) sanctions. Given that fanatic pro-apartheid white were
barely a majority of the white minority, it wouldn't have lasted. If they
were serious about fighting, they probably would have ended up have
apartheid ended by an Anglo-American peace keeping force, who would
rebuild the country (just like we rebuilt Iraq - which might explain why
the pro-apartheid group surrended when they did).
