I think the difference is quite evident. These are two very different
behaviours. In the ATL without HIV their reputations cannot be expected to
improve to the same extent. Drug addiction is a dysfunctional and
destructive habit, with or without diseases.
Admitted hard drug addicts in either TL are far less likely than admitted
LGBs to be elected to public office or hired for critical occupations.
Neither would drug trafficking be decriminalized. The difference in attitude
toward the two groups isn't a matter of how liberal or sensitive you are,
it's a matter of what's permissible for the continued functioning of
society.
