That would require Arabs being interested in open sea sailing. While
they could certainly hold themselves in the Mediterrean for a long
time, I don't think they had much business west of Gibraltar.

Actually,it would be the other way around: *If* the arabs had stayed
in Spain or had otherwise been sucessfull in islamizing Europe, "they"
(or more probably: European moslems) would have discovered America.
However, I believe that Islamisation of Europeans would ultimatively
lead to a schism between Arab Islam and European Islam, with the
latter keeping ties to Christianism, wine and pork. |
