Iraq is a distant, far-off, non-contiguous land, quite a few americans
died there, it's one thing to accept fighting for twenty years like
people in Sudan did, quite another thing to accept a relatively
bloodless (at least in people's mind, people often underestimate the
bloodiness of a war, and at least comparing to other much more bloody
civil conflicts) campaign to protect the integrity of the Union. I
think war will break out if states declare independence, but I dont
think people will accept indefinite sacrifice for the sake of a united
country, therefore, if the union couldnt bring back the renegade state
within a certain amount of time, people's patience may wither. So I
think a fair amount of blood will be spilled if there is a attempt to
secede, but I also think that if the seceded state could hold out long
enough and inflict enough casualties on the Union, things maybe
change.But there is another problem for the seceding states, how many
citizens of those states are willing to accept their young men and
women dying to secede from the Union, is there a issue in the US that
is so divisive that people are willing to sacrifice their lives for it?
